Volunteers Needed
Since the beginning of the 1904 World's Fair Society we have talked about producing an Education Kit for educators to use as a resource when teaching the 1904 World's Fair portion of Missouri History.
In 2004, the centennial year of the Fair, we decided to make this a project for our Society. We are now ready to get back to the design and development by forming a committee, made up of educators and other interested members.
The Education Kit (we may use a different title) could include lesson plans, objectives, reference lists, study questions, suggested projects, possibly a few books and DVD's, sample projects, tour information and much more.
Charles Koehler,Jr. suggested placing much of it online. All schools have access to the internet and it could be updated quickly while reducing production and distribution costs at the same time.
If you are an educator, active or retired, and would like to volunteer your skills to assist with the development of some part of this exciting project contact Vice President Max Storm at 314-968-2810. It is not a requirement to be an educator. Other Society members may want to participate by volunteering your talents such as graphic arts, research skills, website design, proofreading, tying and printing connections.
Financing for this ambitious endeavor will have to be worked out, once the scope ofr the project is better defined. We would hope that we could find a corporation or business that would want to sponsor this effort and have their name associated with such a noble endeavor. And, at a future date, Society members may also be offered the opportunity to make a financial contribution to the project, or sponsor a single portion such as donating funds to purchase a book or DVD for inclusion in the kit/packet.
Our mission statement states that we want to preserve the Memories of the Fair and what better way to accomplish this than through education. We would be enabling many area teachers to assist us with this goal by providing them with resources. If we wanted to get very ambitious we could provide short training courses or seminars to teachers and others in the community such as tour guides.
Please consider assisting us with this undertaking by giving your time or support.
